Sumy: SBU materials help to convict terrorist
The SBU materials helped to convict a local resident for attempting to commit a terrorist act in Sumy.
The law enforcers established that the resident of the regional centre was recruited by the Russian special services. The SBU officers documented that in early December 2017 the offender was instructed by his supervisors to commit an act of terror on the military facility on the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The explosive device, an equivalent to nearly two kilos of TNT, was transported using “cache”.
The SBU officers detained the offender on attempting to put the explosive under the military facility.
During searches in the offender’s residence, the computer equipment with the evidence of committing the unlawful activity in favour of the aggressor country was uncovered.
During the pre-trial investigation, the terrorist provided all necessary assistance to the investigation. The court found the detainee guilty in committing the crime stipulated by Part 2 Article 15 and Part 2 Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to four years of imprisonment.
