SBU blocks issuing of forged documents for departure to European Union
SBU officers blocked the mechanism of issuing the forged documents for departure to the EU countries for people who could have been involved in the activity of the L/DNR illegal armed formations.
The law enforcers established that three offenders provided the clients with the forged passports of one of the Middle East countries. The clients included, among others, the possible members of the L/DNR illegal armed formations who decided to “legalize” in Europe. The gang members were inserting photographs of the “clients” into the original document using non-authentic holograms and artificially applying other means of passport protection.
The SBU officers detained three organizers of the criminal group in Kyiv and the region. During searches of the offenders’ residence, the law enforcers uncovered the office automation equipment for producing such documents, blank sheets, seals, finished forged passports and other documents with signs and elements of forgery, a significant amount of cash, firearms and over 3,000 rounds of different caliber.
The issues of serving a notice of suspicion to the detainees’ in committing the crime in the framework of the Criminal Procedure Code initiated under Part 3 Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and choosing the measure of restraint are being decided.
The urgent investigative and operative actions are under way.
The operation was conducted jointly with the Police under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office.
