SBU uncovers corrupt top managers of Chernivtsivodokanal water utility
Officers of the SBU Main Directorate of Counter-Intelligence Protection of the State’s economic interests exposed the scheme for systematic bribes devised by the management of the communal enterprise Chernivtsivodokanal.
SBU operatives established that the officials of the company extorted money from the business entities in exchange for contracts on the ingredients necessary for stable operation of the critical infrastructure facilities. The officials’ activity could have resulted in ecological and anthropogenic emergency situations.
The law enforcers documented that officials extorted UAH 67,000 (USD 2,577) from the businessman. The SBU officers detained two officials in the workplaces on receiving the subsequent part of the unlawful benefit amounting to UAH 47,000 (USD 1,808).
According to the preliminary estimates, starting from the beginning of the year the offenders received about UAH 3,000,000 (USD 115,385) due to the unlawful scheme.
During the authorized investigative actions in the offenders’ workplaces and residence, the SBU operatives uncovered the documentation confirming the involvement of the heads of the communal enterprise in the fraud.
Two offenders were served a notice of suspicion in committing the crime in the framework of the criminal proceedings initiated under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being decided.
The urgent investigative and operative actions on establishing and bringing to criminal responsibility other offenders involved in the illegal activities are under way. The operation was conducted jointly with the SBU Chernivtsi Regional Office and the National Police.
