SBU exposes businessmen on stealing of funds earmarked for rehabilitation of veterans
Officers of the SBU Main Directorate of Counter-Intelligence Protection of the State’s economic interests exposed the scheme designed by businessmen for stealing budget funds allocated for rehabilitation of veterans.
The SBU operatives established that during the tenders on providing the rehabilitation services for soldiers, conducted by the Ukraine’s State Service for War Veterans and ATO Members, the conmen provided false information about relevant specialists and rehabilitation hardware in the medical establishment. This resulted in veterans receiving incomplete range of rehabilitation services, contrary to described in the tender conditions.
The SBU officers documented that under this scheme during 2016-2017 years the criminals illegally appropriated over UAH 6,000,000 (USD 214,285) of the state funds.
Within the framework of the initiated criminal proceeding, the director of the institution, also a deputy of one of the local councils, was served a notice of suspicion in committing the crimes stipulated by Article 190 and 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
