Kropyvnytskii: SBU exposes two corrupt police officers

SBU officers exposed a corrupt operative of Criminal Investigation Sector of a District Police Office of Kropyvnytskii and a senior officer of Criminal Police Sector of a District Police Office.

The SBU operatives established that the policeman from the regional center extorted UAH 12,500 (USD 450) from a local resident for his "influence" on colleagues from City and District Police Offices. For this sum, the policeman promised to assist in unhindered timber transportation for further sale in the regional center.

The offender resisted during the arrest. The offender damaged two operational cars attempting to escape. He throw money out through the car window. The law enforcers found and seized cash and the damaged police car that he had hidden outside the city.

The SBU officers detained a policeman in his office, where he came the next day.

In one of the districts of the region,  the senior officer extorted UAH 5,000 (USD 180) from a local resident for the return of arrested vehicle, which was allegedly used for committing  thefts. The criminal involved an intermediary to transfer an unlawful benefit.

The law enforcers detained a police officer under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine on his receiving the entire amount of bribe from the intermediary at a street of regional centre.

Following both facts, the criminal proceeding was initiated under Part 3 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.  The issue of serving a notice of suspicion and choosing a measure of restraint in committing a crime is being decided.

Investigative actions are under way.

The detection operation was conducted jointly with the National Police’s internal security unit, under the procedural guidance of the Military Prosecutor's office and regional Prosecutor's Office.
