SBU materials help to convict military defector in Zaporizzhia region (video)
SBU materials help to convict in Zaporizzhia region a military serviceman, a contractor of one of the military units of Ukraine’s Armed Forces who was planning to defect to the enemy side.
The SBU operatives have determined that in April 2017, having given in to pro-Russian propaganda about “the better” service prospects in the Russian Armed Forces, the soldier left the unit without permission.
For a long time, the defector hid at his relatives and friends’ places in the regional center, preparing to defect to the enemy side.
The SBU officers detained the offender in the regional centre in January 2018. During the search at his permanent residence the law enforcers seized Makarov gun, almost 4,000 ammo of various calibre, as well as forged seals of Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as a seal of the regional Zaporizzhia military commissariat. The criminal was planning to produce new documents using fraudulent seals in order to hide his participation in the anti-terrorist operation.
The court found the offender guilty of committing crimes provided for in Part 3 Art. 27, Part 3 Art. 408, Part 1 Art. 263, Part 2 Art. 410, Part 2, 3 Art. 418, Part 3 Art. 358 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to five years imprisonment.
The sentence came into force.
