Vinnytsia region: SBU stops broadcasting of prohibited Russian TV channels
The SBU officers in cooperation with the Cyber Police Department under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office shut down the illegal activity of an Internet provider in Vinnytsia region.
SBU operatives established that a private enterprise provided subscribers with the IPTV software service, without an appropriate license of the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine. The offered to the audience TV channels included banned from broadcasting in Ukraine Russian agitprop stations, in particular, Russia Today.
Law enforcers also documented that the provider rebroadcast a number of TV channels, having no corresponding agreements with the owners of copyright and allied rights. As a result, the owners suffered losses in the amount of over UAH 100,000 (USD 3,571).
In the framework of criminal proceeding initiated under Part 3 Article 176 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine the authorized investigative actions were conducted in the private enterprise office, leading to exposure of technical equipment, which, according to experts, was used for illegal activity.
The urgent investigations are under way.
