Odessa region: SBU exposed State Forestry official on stealing wood
SBU officers blocked the mechanism of illegal sale of wood, which was organised by the State Forest enterprise’s officials in Odessa region.
The SBU operatives found that under the guise of sanitary forest felling the officials of State Forestry created the so-called “reserve” from non-accounted wood. Using falsified documents, the officials illegally sold raw timber to the local merchants at price twice below the market level.
Law enforcers detained the chief of one of the regional districts’ forestry on receiving UAH 40,000 (USD 1,426) of illegal financial gain. For that sum of money the official was to pass to the merchant the enumeration “chip” for the wood legalisation (the chip had already been used in another UA region in 2017).
The criminal proceeding was initiated under Part 3 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The urgent investigative and operative actions on establishing other persons involved in the illegal activity are under way.
The operation was conducted jointly with the Prosecutor's Office.
