Zhytomyr Region: SBU uncovers regional drug dealers
In Zhytomyr Region, SBU officers terminated the regional drug gang specialising in illegal sale of drugs.
SBU officers found that the gang consisted of local citizens, including those previously convicted for the similar crimes. According to SBU information, offenders were receiving the wholesale quantities of drugs from representatives of criminal circles in Lviv and Kyiv Regions. After the packaging, the “product” was sold regionally through the wide network of dealers. Monthly revenue reached UAH 300,000 (circa USD 11,000).
Law-enforcement officers detained four members of the gang including the organizer of illegal “business” in line with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine in Zhytomyr, Lviv and Kyiv region.
In the course of 10 simultaneous searches in the places of residence and registration of the drug-dealers, law enforcers seized over 30 kilos of Dimedrol/Methadone drug mixture, 50 grams of sale-grade Methadone, packaging tools, notes with data about suppliers, clients and debtors, bank cards, unlicensed firearms and traumatic weapons, munitions, foreign and national currency in the equivalent of over UAH 700,000 (USD 25,000).
In the framework of the criminal proceedings initiated under Part 2 Article 307 and Part 1 Article 309 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine the urgent investigative actions on establishing the other offenders involved in the illegal activities are under way.
The operation was conducted jointly with the Investigation Department, the Drug Counteraction Department of National Police in Zhytomyr Region, under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office.
