Lviv: SBU exposes ethnic group of extortioners
SBU officers in Lviv blocked the ethnic organized group specializing in money extortion from local businessmen.
SBU operatives found that the gang comprised of natives of a South Caucasian region. Criminals systematically extorted money from representatives of commercial structures. On the chance non-payment, the racketeers threatened businessmen with violence.
SBU officers documented that the group leader extorted USD 4,500 from a businessman, a native of a Middle Eastern country.
Law enforcers arrested criminal in regional center on receiving part of illegal financial gain amounting to USD 1,000.
The detainee was served a notice of suspicion in committing the crime. The issue of choosing custody as a measure of restraint is being settled.
The urgent investigative and operative actions on bringing to criminal responsibility other persons involved in organized group are ongoing in the framework of the criminal proceeding, stipulated by Part 2 Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The operation was conducted jointly with the police investigators under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office.
