SBU officers unveil corrupt official of Zhytomyr City Council on USD 3,000 bribe
SBU officers jointly with the police investigators of the Main Directorate of the National Police of Ukraine under the procedural supervision of the Regional Prosecutor's Office unveiled corrupt official of Zhytomyr City Council, who set up a scheme for receiving illegal financial gain from local business entities.
The operatives established that a deputy head of one of Zhytomyr city council departments used his friend (former junior notary) as the intermediary in the scheme of extorting money from businessmen, for registration of ownership rights on real estate and issuance of corresponding extract from the State Register for confirmation thereof. The amount of illegal financial gain depended on the quantity and complexity of relevant registration entries.
SBU officers documented the accomplices receiving from a local businessman of two tranches of a bribe, USD 500 each.
The law enforcers detained the official at his workplace immediately after he received the last part of the bribe, USD 1,800. His accomplice was detained later.
The investigative actions in the framework of the criminal proceeding initiated under Part 3 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine are under way, the searches at the offenders’ residences and offices continue.
