SBU blocks cocaine smuggling channel from South America
Operatives of the SBU Office in Vinnytsia region under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor's Office exposed and blocked maritime cocaine smuggling channel from South America.
During a detailed inspection of the cargo destined for Europe from one of the key drug-producing countries on the global market, the law enforcers found 12 kilos of cocaine in a fruit container. The cost of the found “goods” on the black market reaches over USD 1,000,000.
In course of a special operation, the law enforcers detained two citizens of Moldova who attempted to smuggle the cocaine from the container terminal, without the customs control.
In the framework of criminal proceeding initiated by Part 3 Article 305 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine investigations are under way.
Currently, other individuals involved in the cocaine smuggling channel are being identified.
The operation was conducted jointly with the State Border Guard Service and Odesa Customs Office of the State Fiscal Service.
In late March, SBU found in Odesa seaport 257 kilos of cocaine ready for smuggling to the European Union.
