SBU exposes and detains Russia’s FSB agent

Officers of the Counter-intelligence Department of the Security Service of Ukraine exposed and terminated illegal activities of Russia’s FSB agent.

Special service operatives established that the AF of Ukraine retired officer was recruited by Russia’s FSB career officer in Russia in 2017 during Yu. Andropov Leningrad Higher Military-Political Air Defense College reunion.

Counter-intelligence officers of the Security Service of Ukraine found that in order to ensure effective coordination of the execution of reconnaissance and subversive tasks, the agent was transferred to a contact with a representative of the so-called "MGB DNR" - a citizen of Ukraine Levchenko Vyacheslav Andriovych, YOB: 1961. In 80's Levchenko served regular military term in the ranks of the KGB USSR border troops. He then held various positions in the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the State Penitentiary Service Office in Dnipropetrovsk region. In 2014, he was detained on suspicion of committing a crime under Part 1 of Art. 258-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and exchanged for captured servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Law enforcers documented that, in pursuance of the tasks of the adversary special service, the agent attempted to recruit active SBU officials, and also prepared a physical liquidation of certain officers of Ukrainian special service. He also collected and transmitted update intelligence information on the movement of military equipment and deployment of separate units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine involved in the JFO in Donetsk region.

Special service operatives detained offender in Mariupol while receiving restricted materials on aspects of the SBU's operational and official activities.

During the search in the agent's residence, a large number of mobile terminals, SIM cards, including provider “Feniks” from the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region, magnetic media storage, as well as several computers used for processing, storage and transmission of intelligence were detected and seized.   

The retired officer was served a notice of suspicion of committing a crime, stipulated by Part 1 of Art. 111 (high treason) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and detention for a term of 60 days was chosen as a preventive measure.

Pre-trial investigation is under way.
