SBU blocks the powerful channel of illicit firearms trafficking

Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine disclosed and blocked the unlawful activities of the organized group, which established a mechanism for the illicit manufacture and sale of firearms and ammunition in our country.

Special service operatives established that the offenders smuggled from Western European countries parts for firearms through the checkpoints of one of the western regions of Ukraine. Then in the specially equipped workshops the combat weapons were manufactured from the parts.

During the current year, special service officers documented a number of facts of illicit manufacture, supply and sale of firearms by two persons involved in the proceedings. "Clients" were hunted by offenders through their own connections in the circles of legal buyers of weapons.

In the course of authorized searches at the places of residence of persons involved in the proceedings in Kyiv and in the region, law enforcement officers seized sub-machine-gun, eleven Glock, CZ, Walther, Heckler & Koch pistols, over a thousand of rounds and parts kits sets for manufacturing of pistols.

At the place of residence of one of the offenders a workshop to restore the combat properties of weapons was detected.

After conducting searches, the involved persons were detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine and delivered for further investigatory actions. Seized samples of weapons are provided for examination.

Within the framework of criminal proceedings initiated under Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the primary investigative and operational actions are continuing.

The operation on the disclosure of offenders was conducted jointly with the National Police of Ukraine under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv Local Prosecutor's Office No. 10.
