Chernihiv region: SBU exposes illegal storage of military munitions
Unlawful storage and sale of weapons and ammo was detected and blocked in the Chernihiv region.
SBU operatives established that a private entrepreneur from the regional centre illegally stored military munitions for sale, particularly through the Internet.
During the sanctioned investigative actions law enforcers seized three Dekhtiariov machine guns, four 7.62 mm calibre rifles, sighting device for portable anti-tank missile system Metis, more than 1,200 different calibre rounds and AK-74 silencers in the garage and the premises of the criminal. Also there were found explosives, shock-and-trigger mechanisms to the AKM assault rifle, weapons’ and equipment components for the restoration and re-equipment of munitions.
Seized weapons and ammo are sent for examination.
The pre-trial investigation to prosecute persons involved in illegal activities is ongoing, within the framework of criminal proceedings stipulated by Part 1 Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (“Unlawful handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives”).
Information on possible supply of munitions from the Joint Forces Operation area is being checked.
The detection of offender was hold jointly with the National Police investigators under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor Office of Chernihiv region.
