Bukovyna region: former serviceman sells weapons from area of Joint Forces Operation
Security Service of Ukraine exposed a former serviceman on sale of military weapons siphoned off from the area of Joint Forces Operation.
The operatives found that a resident of Bukovyna region, a former contract soldier of one of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, tried to sell weapons and ammo to a Chernivtsi resident.
The law enforcement officers arrested the criminal in one of the settlements of the region on attempt to sell RPK-74 light machine gun and nearly a hundred ammo to it.
The detainee was served a notice of suspicion in committing a crime stipulated by Part 1 Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (“Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives”). The measure of restraint in the form of round-the-clock house arrest with the wearing of electronic tracking device was chosen.
Investigative and operative actions aimed to identify all circumstances of the case and other persons probably involved in weapons sale are under way.
The operation was conducted jointly with the investigators of the National Police Main Directorate Investigative Department in Chernivtsi region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
