Kharkiv city: Officials of penal colonies illegally sell food stuffs for prisoners. The amount of damages comprises over UAH half a million (video)

SBU blocked large-scale embezzlements by the heads of penal colonies of North-East Interregional Department on execution of criminal sentences and probation of the Ministry of Justice in the sphere of rations of sensitive sites.

Officials organized illegal mechanism of food stuffs sale, procured by the Ministry of Justice for prisoners’ ration. Wholesale quantities of food stuffs involved persons sold to retail establishments of the city.

Illegally sold products officials wrote off as allegedly spent on the needs of prisoners. The “trade" was conducted on a cash basis directly from the sensitive territory of penal colonies. According to preliminary estimates, the size of the material damage is exceeding UAH half a million. SBU officials detained loaded cars of mediators during the next move from one of the colonies. Nearly three tons of stolen products were seized from two vehicles. During 15 searches conducted in the offices of the North-East Interregional Department of execution of criminal sentences and probation, four penal colonies and in residences of involved persons, the law-enforcement officers found money received from the deals. The shortage of corresponding goods in the warehouses was also documented.

Within the criminal proceedings two deputy heads of penal colonies and mediator were detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine. At present, the issue of serving to persons involved notices of suspicion of committing a crime, stipulated by Part 3 Art. 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is being settled. The operation was conducted jointly with officers of the DBR Territorial Department in Poltava under procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Kharkiv region.
