The SBU in Sumy region together with the police, under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office, ceased activities of the organized group whose members dealt with state oil embezzlement in the territory of the region.
SBU operatives established that 5 residents of Poltava and Sumy region systematically embezzled oil from oil pipe, situated in Okhtyrskyi district.
The offenders carried out unauthorized cuts in oil pipelines and, using special equipment, pumped stolen product into a tanker truck. Then the raw material was delivered to private enterprises in other regions and sold to commercial structures for processing.
According to preliminary estimates, the cost of stolen oil products from the beginning of the year is almost UAH 100,000 (circa USD 4,000).
In the course of authorized searches at offenders’ residences law enforcement officers seized communication equipment, fake car number-plates and tools for the so-called illegal “tie-ins”.
The investigative actions in the framework of the criminal proceeding initiated under Part 3 Article 185 and Part 2 Article 292 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine are under way.
The issue of serving a notice of suspicion to other criminals is being settled.
