Khmelnytskyi: SBU blocks group of extortioners
SBU officers in Khmelnytskyi blocked organized group specializing in money extortion from citizens with the use of physical and psychological pressure.
The SBU operatives found that the group comprised of 3 regional centre residents, one of whom was previously convicted for grave offence. The criminals dealt with “wheedling” non-existant debts out of local residents. On the chance of non-payment, the racketeers threatened with violence.
SBU officers documented that the group members extorted UAH 20,000 (USD 740) from resident of the regional centre.
Law enforcers detained the criminals Khmelnytskyi street on receiving the second part of the illegal benefit amounting to UAH 18,000 (USD 666).
The issue on serving a notice of suspicion in committing a crime to the criminals and choosing a measure of restraint is now being settled. The investigative actions in the framework of the criminal proceeding initiated under Part 2 Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine are under way.
The detection operation was conducted jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office.
