Zakarpattia region: SBU together with foreign partners blocks activity of international group
The SBU officers together with the State Border Service and law enforcement bodies of the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland blocked the activity of cross-border organized group specializing on human trafficking to European Countries.
The law enforcers established that the group consisted of citizens of Ukraine, neighbouring countries, as well as the countries of Central and South-Eastern Asia. Criminals organized a mechanism to illegally transfer immigrants from South-East Asia to the EU.
In Kyiv and Odesa, the group participants formed groups of illegal migrants, which were then transferred to Zakarpattia. With the use of wide network of so-called “guides”, criminals moved migrants to European countries outside of checkpoints. The law enforcers documented 13 episodes of unlawful actions by the organizers of illegal migration.
During the authorized investigations at the addresses of criminals in Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv regions, the law enforcers seized unregistered weapons, mobile communication means and other evidence proving illegal activity.
Also in the territory of EU country, representatives of foreign law enforcement agencies detained 12 participants of the international group.
In the framework of criminal proceedings initiated under Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine 8 persons involved were served a notice of suspicion in committing the crime. The investigative actions on bringing to responsibility other people involved in the trans-border scheme for human trafficking are under way.
The operation was conducted under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office of Zakarpattia region.
