SBU reveals corrupt scheme of customs officers in Odesa International Airport
The SBU officers together with the Prosecutor’s Office blocked a scheme of customs officers systematically taking bribes in Odesa International Airport.
The law enforcers established that the customs officers “taxed” private businessmen who exported and imported goods through the airport. The SBU officers established that the “tax” for not drawing up an administrative protocol was from 50 to 100 USD for each baggage piece. According to the previous information, the customs officers “earned” up to 100,000 UAH for a shift.
In the framework of the criminal case launched under Part 3 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine the SBU officers fixed a number of episodes of taking bribes by the customs officers in Odesa International Airport. The law enforcers apprehended one of them at his working place while getting 1,000 UAH from a businessman for free export of cigarettes and meat products.
Urgent investigative actions are under way to bring other customs officers involved into the corrupt scheme to justice.
