SBU exposes official of correction facility on drugs delivery to prisoners
Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine blocked the delivery of narcotics and psychotropic substances to one of the penal institutions of Zhytomyr.
Special service operatives established that inspector of the correction facility security unit organized the sale of methadone and marijuana to prisoners. The attacker carried prohibited "packages" to the restricted territory while on duty at the facility. The amount of improper advantage received by an official from prisoners for "goods" ranged from two hundred to seven hundred hryvnias. The payment was made in cash or on the card account of the person involved in the proceedings.
Law enforcement officers detained the inspector after another attempt to carry drugs into the territory of the facility.
In the course of authorised investigations at the offender’s residence and in the territory of the facility, law enforcement officers detected so-called “thievish cash” in foreign currency and hryvnias in the equivalent of nearly one hundred thousand hryvnias, graded amber, bank cards and other material evidence of illegal activity.
The issue of serving a notice of suspicion to the detainee of committing the crime and choosing the measure of restraint is being decided. Within the framework of initiated criminal proceedings under Part 2 Art. 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, urgent investigative actions are continuing to establish other officials possibly involved in the illegal activities.
Measures to expose an offender were conducted jointly with the National Police investigators under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor's Office of Zhytomyr region.
