9,2 tones of amber, which previously had been illegally mined and consequently seized by the SBU, was confiscated to the state revenue in Zhytomyr region.

In February and May last year, the SBU officers seized packed amber during the searches at suspects of the criminal proceeding in Odesa and Kyiv regions.

The officers also seized circa 20 items of stone cutting equipment.

The gemological expertise estimated the total price of the seized amber and its pieces up to UAH 12,500,000 (USD 460,000).

The Korolov district court of Zhytomyr city passed a decision to confiscate the seized goods to the state revenue.

The involved in illegal business individuals are accused of committing the crime under Article 240 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
