Volochaiev Denys Oleksandrovych
Denys Volochaiev was born on December 23, 1981 in the city of Luhansk.
In 2003, he graduated from the National State Tax Service Academy of Ukraine.
Denys dedicated 16 years of his life to law enforcement and military service. From 2003 to 2004 he served in the tax police and, from 2004 to 2019, in the Department of the State Guard of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine.
Since the beginning of the anti-terrorist operation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, he participated in operations to capture criminals and counter reconnaissance and sabotage groups of militants who tried to cross the contact line to carry out terrorist attacks in peaceful regions.
On December 1, 2019, on the line of contact in the east of Ukraine, an enemy sabotage and reconnaissance group attempted to break through the Joint Forces. The JFO command used a reserve group, which included Denys Volochaiev and his comrade Dmytro Kaplunov. During the counter-sabotage combat mission, both officers were injured and died on the battlefield.
Denys Volochaiev was awarded state awards by the President of Ukraine "For Participation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation", the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi of III degree, "For Courage" of III degree and II degree.
By the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 877/2019 of December 3, 2019, for heroism and personal courage shown in defence of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, selfless service to the Ukrainian people, Colonel Volochaiev Denys was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of Golden Star (posthumously).
