Since the beginning of the year, according to the materials of the Security Service of Ukraine, 101 criminal proceedings have been registered due to abuse in the field of environmental management. The notice of suspicion on large-scale felling and export of state timber abroad was served to 46 persons, including officials of various levels.

Thus the SBU suspects 4 employees of the Kupyanskoye Forestry of abuse of office, which caused damage to the state for UAH 17,500,000 (USD 630, 000). And in the case of the misappropriation of the state forest at Olevskyi Forestry of Zhytomyr region, 15 people were brought to trial.

The Security Service also exposed the multimillion fraud of officials of the Hutyanskyi Forestry of Kharkiv region and Yasinyanskyi Forest Hunting Range in Zakarpattia region. By their actions, they caused damage to the state of almost UAH 40,000,000 (USD 1,441,441).

The most resonant and global crime in the field of environmental management, which the SBU investigates, is criminal proceedings on Ecocide. It should be recalled that the case was initiated due to the devastating floods in the west of the country, which led to casualties, damage and destruction of property of citizens, destruction of the infrastructure of the region. One of the main versions of the investigation is illegal felling of forests, abuse of responsible officials and improper implementation of forestry activities.

It should be noted that due to the enhanced cooperation of law enforcement officers with the authorities, the occurrence of 5 more emergencies was prevented, including due to improper implementation of economic activities.

This year, the Security Service of Ukraine also prevented the conclusion of 5 external potentially unprofitable contracts, losses of which would have amounted to more than UAH 12,000,000 (USD 432,000)
