Ivan Bakanov evaluates achievements of SBU Main Directorate in Kyiv and Kyiv region and sets new tasks
The Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Ivan Bakanov got acquainted with the activity results of the SBU Main Directorate in Kyiv and Kyiv region for the last year. He assessed Directorate’s professional achievements, but also stressed the necessity to intensify the work in key areas for more effective counteraction to nowadays threats, which Ukraine faces with.
“Updating and renovation of the SBU is under way. We need to be reformed and to become more effective. Our main task is the defence of state security, countering terrorism, sabotage, cyber threats, subversion and reconnaissance activities. I am sure that personnel of Kyiv Directorate is able to perform all the tasks and to prove efficiency of new methods,” Ivan Bakanov emphasized and pointed out that he was generally satisfied with the work of Directorate.
The Chief of SBU Main Directorate in Kyiv and Kyiv region Serhii Boldyr said that there was a shift to a flexible and dynamic working system for prompt and effective response to potential threats to national security.
For instance, criminal proceeding has been registered on the formation of an agent network by Russian special services at several enterprises of military-industrial complex in order to weaken defence potential of our country (Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Resident of Uzyn city was uncovered on attempt to sell a batch of military-purpose goods (component part of SU-25 jet fighter). During the searches in criminals’ rented apartment SBU officers seized spare parts to military vehicles valued at over USD 1 million, which he stole in military bases.
Cybersecurity unit of Kyiv Directorate stopped the activity of so-called organised group “international detectives”, comprising of former and current officers of the National Police and SBU. They were selling information obtained during illegal activities, including to the representatives of foreign diplomatic missions.
SBU officers also unveiled the officials’ criminal activity of public utility “Main information and computer center” who, in collusion with the management of IT-company, falsified the software development and misappropriated over UAH 20 million (circa USD 833 thousand) from the state budget, allocated within the dedicated informatization program “Electronic Capital”.
Overall, operative units of Main Directorate registered 487 criminal proceedings for the last year, 73 of them by the investigators. 333 individuals were served a notice of suspicion, 77 of them by the investigators of the SBU Main Directorate in Kyiv and Kyiv region.
