SBU counter-intelligence extracts witness of Russian aggression in Ukraine from the so-called “DNR”
During deliberate special operation in Dnipropetrovsk region SBU CI Department officers extracted to the territory under Ukrainian government control ex-member of illegal armed formation of the so-called “DNR”
SBU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region operatives established that in 2015 due to financial difficulties resident of Yasynuvatskyy district of Donetsk region joined the battalion of so-called “100-th Separate Infantry Brigade of 1-st Separate Army Corps of DNR". He provided physical security of the illegal armed formation staff, located in one of the former units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Donetsk city. For line of “duty” a man received wage in the amount of RUB 15 thousand.
However, in course of time, seeing crimes of terrorists, including against civilians, a former militant was willing to leave temporarily occupied territory. He gave the information to Ukrainian law-enforcement officers about occupants’ activity and presence of Russian military equipment on the Ukrainian territory. After checking, the SBU counter-intelligence officials and investigators found that Ukrainian national didn’t take direct part in hostilities and did not commit any serious crimes. Taking into account this fact and provided to investigation important evidence of Russia’s military aggression in Ukraine, he was released from criminal liability by the court decision under Part 2 Art. 258-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. SBU recalls that a person other than an organiser and leader of a terrorist group or terrorist organization, who voluntarily reported to law -enforcement bodies about corresponding terrorist activities, contributed to its termination or disclosure of crimes committed in connection with the establishment or actions of such group or organization, shall be exempted from criminal liability if his/her actions do not constitute another crime.
