SBU stopped the illegal activities of officials of the Cherkasy City Council, who organized corruption scheme of public funds misappropriation.

Operatives of the special service found that the criminal group consisted of four officials of the City Council, including the leadership of one of the departments, the owner and director of the commercial structure. Officials concluded a contract with the construction company for maintenance of roads in the city worth more than UAH 18.5 million.

The check detected that the funds were transferred to a specially created companies. Then the attackers converted the public funds in cash, thus avoiding taxes. According to experts, due to the implementation of this fraud, the state budget suffered UAH 1,6 million losses.

During searches in offices of officials the accounting fraud, financial and payment documentation, proving the transaction were seized.

Within the framework of a criminal proceeding initiated under Part 3 Art. 28, Part 2 Art. 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine five participants of criminal group were served suspicion notices. The issue of choosing a preventive measure is being settled.

The operation was conducted jointly with the National Police investigators under the supervision of the regional Prosecutor's Office.
