SBU CI Department: “MGB LNR" tries to recruit an official of the Ministry of Justice

SBU CI Department exposed an attempt of representatives of the so-called "MGB LNR" to involved official of one of the regional units of the Ministry of Justice in Luhansk region into the criminal activities to the damage of state security.

SBU operatives found that representatives of the quasi-republic "special service" detained a lawyer during his trip to the temporarily occupied Luhansk city. The militants were interested not only in the fact of the man's work in the state agency, but also in the fact that his father holds a responsible position in one of the highest court instances of Ukraine.

Using methods of psychological pressure, blackmail and threatening imprisonment, the “MGB LNR” “officials” forced the man to sign a consent to confidential cooperation. By the order of terrorists, he had to collect and pass information about his colleagues, employees of law-enforcement and state institutions of Luhansk region, as well as about his father's official activities. The “agent” had to receive instructions from the curators by the telephone.

Just after the returning to the territory under Ukrainian government control, an official came into sight of the SBU CI officers.

At present a man has provided detailed information about the circumstances of his recruitment and assigned tasks. The investigation revealed that an official didn’t perform any action to the damage of the national security of Ukraine.

Such cases are not rare. SBU systematically detects and prevents attempts of the special services of the aggressor country and its controllable puppets to involve our compatriots into illegal activities. It should be recalled that according to Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the state treason is punishable up to 15 years of imprisonment. At the same time the citizens of Ukraine are released from criminal liability if they did not commit any acts requested by a foreign state, foreign organization or their representatives and voluntarily reported on links with them and the received task.”
