SBU investigation helped to sentence investigator of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Chernihiv region, who extorted and received a bribe from the person involved in criminal proceeding.

SBU officers documented that the investigator extorted funds from a local resident for not bringing to criminal responsibility upon a traffic accident with the victims.

The exactor was detained in the summer of 2018 while receiving a bribe.

Desnyanskyi district court of Chernihiv city found investigator’s guilty of committing a crime under Part 3 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and sentenced him to 5 years and 2 months of imprisonment with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold positions in law-enforcement agencies for a term of two years.

The Court of Appeal left the decision of the court of first instance unchanged.

The verdict came into force.
