SBU detains accused in Handziuk case

SBU officers, in cooperation with the Prosecutor General's Office detained a former People's Deputy Assistant on suspicion of leading a criminal organization. This person is named in Kateryna Handziuk case as an accused.

SBU officers have found that persons suspected of attack against Kateryna Handziuk are also involved in the commission of other serious crimes. Therefore, searches are conducted to obtain additional evidence. And the leader of the criminal organization, a former People's Deputy of Ukraine Assistant of previous convocations, was served a suspicion notice. He was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

“Investigation of Kateryna Handziuk murder is a high-profile case for the community, a challenge for the SBU, and a very important change marker in the system's work for me personally. It is a tragic event in the history of our country and a huge human grief. We are doing our best to ensure that not only perpetrators but also masterminds would be brought to justice in the near future,” - said SBU Chairman Ivan Bakanov. SBU also searched the head of the Kherson Regional Council, the former head of the Kherson Regional State Administration, his deputy, and other persons. Currently 9 persons have been served suspicion notices.
