SBU Military Counterintelligence prevented the employment to a responsible position in the Ministry of Defense of the Crimean resident with Russian citizenship and contacts with the special services of the aggressor country.

SBU operatives established that during several years before the temporary annexation of the Crimean Peninsula, Ukrainian woman lived abroad. Immediately after the events of 2014, the woman returned to the Crimea, where she obtained a Russian passport allegedly for registration of real estate. She moved to Kyiv soon. However, she didn’t hurry to settle in the mainland of Ukraine - she didn’t have neither a permanent employment nor a source of income. At that time, the Crimean woman often travelled to Russia and to the temporarily annexed peninsula, where her contacts with representatives of special services of the aggressor country were recorded.

It was after one of these trips that a woman suddenly decided to find a job in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. She ran for one of the senior positions in the MD public procurement department. This area of work involves access to classified information in the defense field and direct communication with NATO member states senior officials.

The applicant for the position even managed to go through several qualifying stages for the final appointment, but the examination conducted by the SBU found circumstances incompatible with the civil service in the Ministry of Defense. A woman "forgot" to indicate that she had Russian citizenship, friends from the FSB and did not report the content of conversations with them. SBU officers interviewed her and warned about criminal responsibility for high treason. It should be recalled that according to Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine actions to the detriment of national interests, committed on the criminal task of a foreign party shall be punished by imprisonment for a term up to 15 years.
