Lviv region: SBU prevents use of Russian software product for surveillance cameras

SBU prevented usage of Russian software product for surveillance cameras on the roads of Lviv region.

Department of Road Infrastructure, transport and communication of Lviv Regional State Administration at the end of last year put out tender for the procurement of cameras to the value of UAH 8 million. The winner was the local firm.

Operatives of the special service during the inspection established that dealers use the software of Russia’s origin. The system allows to recognize the car license plates, train numbers on trains, faces of drivers and passengers. According to experts' conclusions, the product contains the remote administration function through the use of outgoing source code from the territory of Russia. This could be used to obtain information on the movement of military equipment by rail and general roads.

Due to the measures taken by the SBU, a tender committee of the Department of Road Management, transport and communication of the Lviv Regional State Administration dismissed and cancelled the tender.
