The restoration of the good memory about soldiers of the UNR army and fighters of rebel groups is a matter of honour for the SBU. Therefore, the SBU transferred to the National Rehabilitation Commission archival cases of 53 participants of the Ukrainian Liberation movement repressed by Bolsheviks. This was told by Andriy Kohut, Director of the SBU Sectoral State Archive. 

For over 25 years, the SBU continues complex work on searching and review of the cases of Ukrainian patriots, repressed by the Soviet totalitarian regime.

Due to the inadequacy of legislative base the cases of the Ukrainian Revolution 1917 – 1921 participants and the National underground of the first quarter of the last century, remained classified for a long time. In 2018, there were positive legislative shifts, which substantially improved the procedure for reviewing these cases. Now, not only relatives of the repressed, but also the general public, activists and simple Ukrainians can apply for the rehabilitation of the red regime victims. It is important that today the right to restore justice was also received by those patriots who fought for Ukraine with lethal force, and whom the communist regime cynically stigmatized as criminals and bandits.

In the list forwarded by the SBU to the Rehabilitation Commission, there many significant for the Ukrainian history figures. Among them, the commander of the southern group of troops of the UNR, general-ensign Andriy Hulyi-Hulenko, commander of the Podolsk insurgent group Colonel Semen Kharchenko, a participant of the legendary Battle of Kruty Semen Mohyla.

"The pages of archival cases are not just the fates of individuals, a difficult story of our people is embossed there. It is important to know and listen to the lessons of the past, and remember the highest price paid by Ukrainian patriots for our independence and the right to free development, “- said Andriy Kohut.
