SBU prevented the contract murder of a representative of one of the public organizations, who publicly opposed the illegal mining of amber and felling of trees in Rivne and Zhytomyr regions.

Operatives of the SBU Main Directorate for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime received information that previously convicted resident of Rivne is looking for perpetrator of murder in criminal circles. The organizer of the crime "ordered" the 

local activist, who consistently opposed the schemes of theft state natural resources in the region.

Law enforcement officers found that the activist, because of his civil position, prevented attacker to set up deals with illegal mining of amber and deforestation. The involved person planned to engage in the shadow business affiliated structures, as well as representatives of criminal circles.

SBU officers documented facts of collecting by attacker information about the potential victim.

To commit the crime, its organizer gave to the “killer” RPG-18 grenade launcher and two combat grenades.

The imitation of crime was conducted to prevent the murder.

The law enforcement officers detained the offender in the regional centre on reporting by “killer” to organizers of the crime. The detainee was served a notice of suspicion. The issue of choosing a custody as a measure of restraint is currently being settled.

Within the framework of initiated by the SBU Main Investigation Department criminal proceedings under Part 2 cl. 11 Art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the investigations are ongoing. The Article provides imprisonment for a term of ten to fifteen years, or a life term.

The special operation on exposing and detention of offenders was held with the SBU Office in Rivne and Zhytomyr regions by fighters of the SBU Special Operations Center “A" under the procedural supervision of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
