Poltava region: SBU prevents smuggling of cultural valuables to Europe

The SBU Office in Poltava region officers prevented smuggling of cultural heritage items through the postal service to the EU country.

Allegedly, a resident of Poltava City planned to illegally move through the state border artefacts of the times of the Scythian archeological culture. The suspect found the customer through a specialized forum.

The law enforcement seized 29 antiquities from the VII-III century BC, the cultural value of which is now being established. During the investigative actions at the suspect’s place of residence, a collection of coins, medieval items and antiquities were discovered. Moreover, the correspondence with the customer, proving illegal activity was found as well.

The criminal proceeding was initiated under Part 1 Art.14, Part 1 Art.201 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The investigative actions are ongoing.
