SBU CI exposed in Luhansk region a cache with highly toxic substance – metallic mercury.

The cache was located in Lysychansk city suburbs. The law enforcement seized a container with over 20 kilos of mercury and initiated criminal case upon the fact of illegal storage of military destruction means. The investigation established that the cache was set up by a local resident.

Allegedly, the suspect planned to smuggle the mercury abroad.

The issue of registration the criminal proceedings upon the CI materials is being settled
(P. 1 Art. 321 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – “Illegal production, making, purchasing, transportation, sending, storage for selling purposes, or sale of poisonous and drastic substances”). The operation was conducted jointly with the National Police and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
