Khmelnytskyi region: SBU blocks underground workshops manufacturing firearms (video)
The SBU uncovered an organized group that manufactured and sold small arms and ammunition in Khmelnytskyi region.
Allegedly, three residents of Khmelnytskyi region illegally manufactured munition for the further sale.
The offenders refurbished traumatic weapons to combat and restored outdated ammunition.
They arranged underground workshops in a garage in Khmelnytskyi city and in a private house located in Yarmolyntsi village. They searched for clients on specialized online platforms and sent the goods via postal service. In Khmelnytskyi region, the offenders also sold munition to criminals.
SBU officers detained a group leader on a street of Khmelnitsky city on illegal sale of Makarov pistol and 550 rounds of various caliber.
Earlier, SBU operatives documented the illegal sale of 6 handguns to the detainees and almost 150 rounds.
During the searches in underground workshops and in offenders’ residences, SBU seized Kalashnikov rifle, GP-25 under-barrel grenade launcher, 8 handguns, 2 revolvers, 1,100 rounds of various caliber, components for munition and a large number of magazines for assault guns and pistols.
Law enforcement also found equipment and tools for manufacturing of weapons and ammunition.
Seized items were sent for examination.
The issue of serving a notice of suspicion to the group members is being settled. Custody as a type of detention is being chosen.
In order to identify and to bring to justice people involved in unlawful activity, urgent investigation is ongoing within a criminal proceeding initiated for unlawful handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives.
The operation was conducted jointly with the Police investigators under the legal supervision of regional Prosecutor’s Office.
