Rivne region: SBU uncovers over 600 kg of amber

SBU Main Directorate for Fighting Corruption and Organized Crime officers seized in Rivne region over 600 kg of illegally mined amber from the participants of the organized group involved in the preparation of a contract murder.

During the staged operation SBU officers established that the attackers were preparing a contract murder of a representative of a public organization. The activists publicly opposed illegal amber mining and deforestation in Rivne and Zhytomyr regions.

In February 2020, employees of the Security Service of Ukraine documented the facts of preparation for the crime and detained the contractor.

In the course of further investigative actions, on April 8, SBU operatives identified and found the place where the offenders stored illegally mined amber. During searches at the place of residence of one of the group members, law enforcement officers seized almost 600 kg of "solar stone" for sale.

The investigation is ongoing.

The exposing of illegal activity was carried out jointly with the SBU Office in Rivne region and the SBU Main Investigative Department under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor's General Office.
