SBU CI detains person of interest in general Shaytanov case
SBU CI detained in Kyiv an accomplice in general Shaytanov case – a former operative of SBU CSO “A”, who also was in contact with FSB colonel Egorov.
During the searches of the suspect’s residence, SBU seized large weapons arsenal: RPG-26 rocket launcher, riffle-attached grenade launcher with two grenades, STEYR 1914 handgun with silencer, one carbine, Mauser-Werks rifle, home-made rifle with silencer, three RGD-5 grenades with fuses, some substance similar to plastid, twelve blasting caps and more than 9,000 rounds of different caliber.
The seized weapons and munitions are being examined by the experts and entered as evidence in the case. The detainee was served a notice of suspicion of unlawful handling of weapons, ammunition and explosives (Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The form of detention is being chosen.
The investigation is ongoing to establish the nature of the suspect’s ties with Russia’s special service.
To remind, general Shaytanov was exposed and detained by the CI on April 14, 2020. The general is accused of collecting intelligence and terrorist activity in the interest of Russia’s FSB, causing direct harm to Ukrainian national security. On April 15, Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv chose custody for 60 days as a type of detention for Shaytanov.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing upon the fact of high treason and terrorist act
(P. 1 Art. 111, Art. 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), under the supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine.
