Bukovyna region: SBU prevents illegal sale of munition
In Chernivtsi region, the SBU prevented the illegal sale of firearms, ammunition and explosives.
Allegedly, the resident of Chernivtsi region illegally stored military munition in friend’s house. The offender was searching for clients using his own ties with criminals, as well as abroad.
According to intelligence, the offender planned to smuggle the munition through the state border to the EU country.
The SBU detained the arms dealer in a border area on sale of a landmine, TNT, six grenades, high-explosive anti-tank warheads, high-explosive shells, components for Kalashnikov machine gun and up to 1,000 rounds.
During the searches the law enforcement also seized the substance that looked like cannabis. The seized munition and substance were sent for examination.
The investigation is ongoing within a criminal proceeding initiated for smuggling and unlawful handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives in order to clarify all the conditions of the crime and to bring to justice other people involved in criminal activity.
The information on the illegal export of the seized weapons and ammunition from the Joint Forces Operation area is being checked.
The operation was conducted by the SBU Office in Chernivtsi region under the legal supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Chernivtsi region.
