SBU blocked misappropriation of public funds, allocated for roads repairs in Odesa region.

SBU employees established that in 2019, the executive committee of Reni city council concluded more than a dozen of agreements with an affiliated private company on major road repairs. The agreements were signed with violations of the public procurement procedures, stipulated by the law.

The contractors entered false data about finished repairs and used materials to accounting and technical documentation. According to the preliminary estimates, the deal resulted in almost UAH 4 million (USD 137,900) budget losses.

During the searches of the suspects’ offices and residences, the law enforcement seized documents proving the illegal activity.

The investigation upon the fact of misappropriation, embezzlement or conversion of property by malversation (P. 3 Art. 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the case and bring to justice all the persons involved into the scheme.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Odesa region.
