The SBU took into custody a prosecutor of a local Prosecutor’s Office in Dnipro city for receiving illegal benefit.

Allegedly, an official extorted money from a resident of regional center, who was found on handling drugs by police investigators. For USD 7,000, the prosecutor promised to “resolve” the issue and to help to avoid criminal responsibility.

The law enforcement officers detained the offender in accordance with Art.208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine on receiving the full sum of bribe on a city street.

During the searches in the offender’s office and residence, the SBU officers found the real evidence proving the involvement in illegal activity.

The official received a notice of suspicion within the criminal proceeding initiated for abuse of authority or office. Custody was chosen as a type of detention.

The operation was conducted jointly with the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation, located in Poltava city, under the legal supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Poltava region.
