SBU detains seller of special technology for secret obtaining of information

SBU employees detained a Lviv resident who illegally sold special technology for secret obtaining of information.

SBU established that the suspect was selling in all regions of Ukraine the so-called “code-grabbers” - devices aimed to grab and process radio signals for unlocking vehicles or other objects, equipped with alarm system. The suspect searched for the clients via the Internet. The clients received the goods via the postal service and transferred money to the seller’s bank cards.

The law enforcement detained the suspect at his residence in Lviv city after selling another special device worth USD 2,500. This particular device allowed the user to remotely control alarm system of vehicles, including vehicles of premium class.

During the search of the suspect’s residence, the law enforcement seized computer equipment, bank cards and mobile phones, proving the illegal activity.

The detainee was served a notice of suspicion of unlawful purchase, sale and use of special technology for secret obtaining of information (P. 2 Art. 359 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the case.

The operation was conducted by the SBU Office in Vinnytsia region, under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Vinnytsia region.
