SBU helps to return land plot worth over USD 30,000,000 to Dnipro community
Officers of the Security Service of Ukraine helped to return land plot of recreational purposes worth over UAH 800,000,000 (USD 30,000,000) to Dnipro community.
The SBU uncovered facts of inefficient misuse of the land in the regional center by businessmen. A local company had leased the plot for a period of 25 years. It was planned to build a multi-functional complex on the 22 ha area of the Dnipro river coast.
According to the agreement, the businessmen had to build the project during first five years of the lease. After its commissioning, the conditions could have been revised, which would increase the allocations to the budget of the local community.
The expertise established that after ten years of the lease, the construction hasn’t started. The rental charges were calculated under a significantly reduced rate though.
The experts estimate the losses to the local budget up to UAH 5,000,000 (USD 185,000).
The Security Service of Ukraine through the Dnipro City Council and Prosecutor’s Office initiated an inspection of compliance of the current land legislation during the lease of the land plot. Consequently, it was decided to initiate a claim procedure for termination of the land lease agreement.
Currently, according to the court decision, the land plot has been returned to the disposal of the Dnipro territorial community, and the fiscal authorities are working to sue the company for shortfall of the money to the local budget.
