SBU suspects officials of Sumy Regional Council department of large-scale embezzlement of funds allocated for children’s hospital
The SBU uncovered the embezzlement of state funds allocated for workplace arrangement of physicians of Sumy regional children’s hospital.
Allegedly, the officials of one of Sumy Regional Council departments during the tender for the purchase of 80 computers for the medical institution artificially inflated the cost by more than UAH 1.5 million (USD 55,560). The money was transferred to an affiliated commercial entity that unjustifiably won the auction due to intervention of the officials. SBU operatives documented the illegal activity.
During the searches in offenders’ offices, the law enforcement officers found the documents and computers proving unlawful actions.
The manager of the Regional Council department tried to get rid of undeclared USD 10,000 and certificates for technical conformity of two cars while investigation was ongoing. His subordinate had to quietly take the material evidence out of the building.
The investigation is ongoing within the criminal proceeding initiated for abuse of the authority or office and for declaring unreliable information in order to clarify all the circumstances of unlawful actions.
Possible involvement of the offenders in other illegal activity is being checked.
The operation was conducted jointly with the National Police under the legal supervision of Prosecutor’s Office of Sumy region.
