SBU seizes 60 tons of alcohol with fake excise stamps
The Security Service of Ukraine discovered warehouses with almost 60 tons of alcohol with forged excise stamps in Cherkasy, Poltava and Zhytomyr regions.
SBU operatives found that top management of one of the legal alcohol producers set up illicit business. The attackers applied to the unaccounted goods excise stamps with numbers, which were issued to other marketeers in previous periods. Moreover, they used old-style stamps and counterfeit excise duties to label their products.
During searches in warehouses, law enforcement officers seized alcohol beverages worth over UAH 3,500,000 (USD 129,630).
Currently, the extent of losses of the state budget is being established.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
The operation was carried out by the SBU Offices in Cherkasy and Volyn regions jointly with the SBU Main Directorate of Counter-Intelligence Protection of the State's Economic Interests under the procedural guidance of Prosecutor's Office of Volyn region.
