SBU exposes spyware developer in JFO area
The Security Service of Ukraine in the Luhansk region exposed a developer of spyware that provided unauthorized remote access to personal data.
SBU cyber experts established that the virus was developed by a resident of Starobilsk town. His "product" allowed customers to access other people's computers and smartphones to steal logins, passwords, read information from messengers and electronic payment systems. The attacker offered spyware to customers through one of the forums for hackers. SBU officers promptly identified the seller and prevented the sale of the spyware.
Within the criminal proceeding, the law enforcement officers conducted searches at the hacker’s place of residence and seized computer equipment with samples of malicious software.
The hacker is to be served a notice of suspicion of the crime under Article 361-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The law enforcement is establishing whether the suspect sold malicious software on other resources and its possible usage for unauthorized access to resources of state bodies.
The operation was conducted jointly with regional cyber police unit, the Main Directorate of National Police in Luhansk region under the supervision of Prosecutor’s Office of Starobilsk town.
