SBU prevents illegal import of smartphones worth UAH 100 million to Ukraine
SBU officers prevented in Zakarpattya region illegal import from Europe of a batch of valuable smartphones and portable equipment of well-known world brands for over UAH 100 million.
According to investigation, one of the capital's importing companies and a brokerage company are involved in the illegal activity. They planned to import mobile phones and equipment to Ukraine under the guise of auto parts.
Today at the “Uzhhorod” checkpoint law enforcement officers stopped illegal cargo. During the inspection of the truck, instead of the declared parts, SBU officers found a batch of branded smartphones, laptops and other office equipment. If the deal succeeds, the state budget would suffer multimillion losses due to unpaid duties and taxes.
At present, the issue of drawing up the administrative protocol on violation of customs rules and initiation of criminal proceeding is being settled.
The investigation is ongoing. All circumstances of the case are established, the involvement of employees of controlling bodies in illegal transactions is being checked.
Measures to combat the illegal movement of goods were carried out jointly with the Zakarpattya Customs of the State Customs Service and the regional Prosecutor's Office.
