Ex-militant uses program "Waiting for You at Home" to return to peaceful life (video)

Due to the SBU Program “Waiting for You at Home” another former member of illegal armed groups of the so-called “LNR” has returned to Ukrainian government-controlled territory.

SBU operatives found that in 2014, a resident of Luhansk region, serving another sentence in a local prison, headed a detachment of convicts who unloaded the militants' military equipment.

Since June 2017, after the end of the sentence, he has joined the so-called People's Militia of the LNR. The terrorist leaders enrolled the resident of Luhansk region for the "position" of the grenade launcher. Afterwards, he was appointed the "deputy commander of the combat vehicle", where he was involved in the transfer of military equipment from Russia.

In the fall of the same year the man, having realized illegality of his choice, left the gang and went to Russia to earn money.

After returning from Russia, the former militant was hiding on the temporarily uncontrolled territory of Luhansk region due to fears of criminal responsibility. Having learned about the SBU Program "Waiting for You at Home", the man turned to the Ukrainian special service.

Upon arrival to the Ukrainian government-controlled territory, the man testified about his stay in the ranks of militant units coordinated by the Russian military.

Within the framework of the initiated criminal proceedings, SBU officers confirmed that the resident of Luhansk region did not directly participate in the hostilities. Additionally, he did not commit other serious and especially serious crimes.

The Leninskyi District Court of Kropyvnytskyi city decided to release the former member of illegal armed groups from criminal liability.

The operation was conducted by the SBU Office in Kirovohrad region.
